Poker can be a fun game. And I don’t mean funny “ha-ha,” but more like funny “aarrrrggggghhh,” especially when you’re just starting out.

If the internet is good for nothing else (and judging from my Twitter feed, it might not be) at least it’s good to learn how to play poker.

It used to be if you wanted to learn to play poker with real players, you had to go out and lose money while doing so. There was an entire industry of guys with gold teeth and nicknames centered around a location (“Chicago Pete,” “Minnesota Lou,” “California Prison Bob”). Now, you can sign up for online poker games (click here) and win or lose without fearing for your extremities.

Once you get the rhythm down, you can play in online poker tournaments where even if you lose, you still don’t even have to put your pants on.

Which, last time I checked, was required at most casinos.

Anyway, it’s much easier to learn what you’re doing these days, which is probably good enough to give you more of a chance than you’d have just wandering in off the streets.
