True Blood: Werewolves, Gay Vampires, and Snoop Dogg

Gay vampires. Or gayer than normal.A few thoughts on tonight’s episode of HBO’s True Blood.

  • There are few phrases I can imagine funnier than “Stay tuned after True Blood for Snoop Dogg’s special salute to Sookie Stackhouse.” And yes, I did.
  • We begin with a halftime score, Vampire 3, Werewolves 0. If this season’s going to make them into a worthy opponent, they’re going to need some tougher werewolves.
  • Sookie’s trying to get help to find Bill. That’s probably best, since it seems this show works best when the two lovers are split. The most exciting part of last season had Sookie alone in the cult, and Bill off playing Yahtzee.
  • Speaking of Bill, did it seem like he was getting led to his room by one of the two gay guys from Seinfeld who roughed up Kramer for Elaine’s armoire?
  • Jessica’s storyline is really well done, the way they can bounce back and forth between the horrors of teen angst, and the other horrors of the dead body she left in the basement. It’s not exactly the kind of thing Judy Blume helped equip little girls for.

Reid Kerr wonders why nobody’s using mummies.

This is one of my favorite shows and I never miss an episode but I have to admit that I’ve had to walk out of the room a couple of times this season. Tone it down a bit please.
